• Every fight teaches me something. Every step takes me further.

Hey, I’m Daniel Shlimak and proud to represent Australia in karate.

One training session, one competition, one step at a time.

That simplicity gives me clarity and right now, everything I’m doing points in one direction — building international experience.

My pathway is all about putting myself in the right environments to grow:

    Competing internationally.

Targeting World Championships and major tournaments.

Working toward Australian National Team selection.

Building international ranking and selection opportunities.

    Learning to perform under pressure.

Developing long-term as an elite athlete, with the goal of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, if karate is selected.

I’ve earned 18 national and international medals so far, but I know the real work goes beyond results. This journey is built over time — through discipline, consistency, and showing up when it counts.

The first big goal for 2026 has already begun: the World Championships in Bielsko-Biała, Poland. It’s a huge milestone and an important step in the path I’m building.

There’s still a lot of work to do before then.

So, if you’d like to follow my journey or support the road ahead, you’re welcome to be part of it.

    Why Karate?

I started karate when I was just four years old. Mum showed me a video on her iPad and said, “Look at this—this is something you can do where it’s okay to be loud, kick, and punch without getting in trouble.” That was it—I was all in.

I love the challenge, the discipline, and the energy. Karate has taught me so much more than just how to fight. It believes in me—building my confidence, helping me stay focused, and giving me the strength to push through tough moments, both on and off the mat.

It keeps me fit, gives me goals to chase, and has shown me what it really means to respect others—even in competition.

What makes it even more special is the family you build inside the dojo.

Over the years, I’ve trained with people who’ve become great friends. We’ve grown up together, pushing each other from white belts to Black Belts. That journey—with all its highs and lows—has shaped who I am today.

    Karate isn’t just a sport.

    It’s my second home.

    My Dojo

Kimekai Martial Arts isn’t just where I train—it’s where I’ve come into my own. This dojo has been a massive part of my life since I first put on a gi.

It’s where I’ve developed—not just as an athlete, but as a leader and teammate. The coaches here believe in discipline, hard work, building character, and they’ve pushed and supported me to be my best.

Our team is like a family—we support each other, challenge each other, and celebrate together.

Whether it’s training for national comps, just showing up on a weeknight to train hard, or helping the younger belts find their feet, Kimekai brings out the best in all of us.

    Elite Lifestyle

Karate started as a fun way to stay active — but stepping into competition changed everything.Training at an elite level requires discipline, responsibility, and integrity — as they say 'even when no one is watching'. Being part of the leadership program means leading by example on and off the tatami. It’s not just about winning, but about how I train, how I handle pressure, and how I live the values of karate every day. Competing at this level comes with real sacrifice — giving up weekends, saying 'I can't, I've got training' to a lot, travelling for events, managing weight, and balancing training with school. Learning to recover, refocus, and keep going when things don’t go to plan is part of the process. That’s what elite really means to me. In karate, you earn everything through consistency, respect, and performance under pressure. Progress isn’t promised — it’s proven, and it’s not always easy — but it’s worth it.
